AWS Athena is a hugely powerful serverless tool that allows to query data stored across S3 and many other data-sources. We have used it as part of a data-lake to aggregate data from many sources and display these in AWS Quicksight. It is also often used for ad-hoc inspection of semi-structured data. We have even used it to search apache logs.
